چکیده

This research focuses on the development of a machine learning technique based on Time-Delay Neural Networks (TDNN) and Independent Component Analysis (ICA), to analyze EEG signal dynamics related to the initiation and propagation of epileptic seizures. We aim at designing a generative model to simulate EEG time-series after alteration of specific localized channels (electrodes) in order to explore the effects of brain surgery ex-vivo. Introduction Epilepsy is a chronic illness that affects approximately 12% of the world’s population. Up to 40% of epileptic patients are refractory to medical therapy and may be candidates for brain surgery. Intracranial electroencephalography (EEG) is a critical tool in the pre-surgical analysis of patients with medicationrefractory epilepsy. Epileptic seizures correspond to an abnormal oscillatory electric activity visible on EEG. Since EEG is recorded with several localized electrodes across the brain, it can be used to identify the seizure onset zone, which is defined as a small region of cortex whose removal could abolish seizures.

Prediction of Epileptic Seizures in Patients with Temporal Lobe Epilepsy (TLE) based on Cepstrum analysis and AR model of EEG signal

Epilepsy is a chronic disorder of brain function caused by abnormal and excessive electrical neurons discharge in the brain. Seizures cause disturbances in consciousness that occur without prior notice, so their prediction ability, based on EEG data, can reduce stress and improve quality of life. An epileptic patient EEG data consists of five parts: Ictal, Inter-Ictal, pre-Ictal, Post-Ictal, an...

A Unique Approach to Epilepsy Classification from EEG Signals Using Dimensionality Reduction and Neural Networks

Characterized by recurrent and rapid seizures, epilepsy is a great threat to the livelihood of the human beings. Abnormal transient behaviour of neurons in the cortical regions of the brain leads to a seizure which characterizes epilepsy. The physical and mental activities of the patient are totally dampened with this epileptic seizure. A significant clinical tool for the study, analysis and di...

Comparing diagnosis of depression in depressed patients by EEG, based on two algorithms :Artificial Nerve Networks and Neuro-Fuzy Networks

Background and aims: Depression disorder is one of the most common diseases, but the diagnosis is widely complicated and controversial because of interventions, overlapping and confusing nature of the disease. So, keeping previous patients’ profile seems effective for diagnosis and treatment of present patients. Use of this memory is latent in synthetic neuro-fuzzy algorithm. P...

Performance Analysis of Epileptic Seizure Detection Using DWT & ICA with Neural Networks

The electroencephalogram (EEG) signal plays an important role in the detection of epilepsy. The EEG recordings of the ambulatory recording systems generate very lengthy data and the detection of the epileptic activity requires a timeconsuming analysis of the entire length of the EEG data by an expert. The aim of this work is compare the automatic detection of EEG patterns using Discrete wavelet...
